Poem

Please follow the format of this poem and use the book by Harriet Jacobs to write an original poem.

The Dead
Susan Mitchell
At night the dead come down to the river to drink.

They unburden themselves of their fears, their worries for us.

They take out the old photographs.

They pat the lines in our hands and tell our futures, which are cracked and yellow.

Some dead find their way to our houses.

They go up to the attics.

They read the letters they sent us, insatiablefor signs of their love.

They tell each other stories.

They make so much noisethey wake usas they did when we were children and they stayed up drinking all night in the kitchen.

Or follow this link and read and respond to abolitionist but and the other articles, photographs.

Incidents in the life of a slave girl

Linda was happy until she was six
Later she realized she was a slave
She became very brave
Outsmarting her master
Still her life was a disaster
He was obsessed with her
He wouldn’t leave her alone

Now Linda is grown
She has 2 babies of her own
Dr. Flint still pursuing her
He doesn’t fail to remind her of her ingratitude
He doesn’t understand her attitude
He swore to make her suffer
Now what will become of her?

Linda sometimes prayed
Her kids would die in infancy
She couldn’t forget they were slaves
They will hold their masters name
Now she prays for their health
Will anybody offer to help?

Thirteen ways looking at "Tenderfoot"

I
Behind the potent armies of mexico was on ly so many to Rebel

II
Tenderfoot followed his heart with passion and truth

III
He was like snow in the summer
he just did not belong
out of a crowd of ruthless rebels

IV
But out of many,
there's a story to every man

V
Tha lead them to a path down
to victoria or death in the war

VI
But they would not know what the road leads for them after

VII
But,
Tenderfoot knows his situation

VIII
He was like in a labyrinth
trying to find a path within himself
so he joins ther rebels

IX
which leads his path
to fight,
to rebel,
for him,
and for his people

X
His life changed from that day fourth

XI
once a fear now a motivation

XII
Like a river he keeps moving not knowing his end

XIII
so he fights and fights for the one thing he loves most his country

Character Log #4

Ivan Denisovich is a character that really keeps to himself, his main goal is to get through the work camp and survive. Ivan uses many different strategies to survive in the work camp. One strategy that seems to work is he never brings attention to himself. Ivan walks in big groups so that he won’t be picked on by the guards. Ivan believes that if he just follows orders and listens to his squad leader everything will be okay.

Another strategy that Ivan Denisovich uses is that he just hangs out with people that are like him. Ivan tries to avoid people who are sneaky and don’t obey the camp rules. By avoiding these people Ivan won’t and will not be influenced from others to do bad things.
