Breath, Eyes, Memory
A Poem of much Heartache
A shadow always following close behind
In her dreams he seems to find her
The memory of that day when a man raped her
Young as a new born child and old enough to attract him
In the sugar cane field was taken away
Not only her virginity but her will to live
She ran from her fear and headed to the city
New York her destination and her goal a new beginning
Had a daughter left behind in Haiti
with her grandmother and her Tante Atie
Over the years the night mares kept coming
Feeling as though her death is close
Each and every time more and more believable
At last one day sent a tape to retrieve
The daughter which was violently conceived
So much time apart changed their relationship
The mother soon lost a daughter because of a violation
The dreams kept coming her life got worse
Her daughter left her when she needed her most
In the end her life she took and along with that
A baby died too.
